The Ultimate Guide to All Natural Beard Oil!

The Ultimate Guide to All Natural Beard Oil!

The Ultimate Guide to All Natural Beard Oil!

Beard Oil! You’ve probably already noticed that many men these days are sporting some type of facial hair from curly mustaches, nicely trimmed works of art, to a big bushy mess like bushranger from the 1850s. About 50% of men are leaving the razor in the cupboard and discovering that a hairy face is less maintenance and can be styled to suit the unique shape of a man's face.

In astudy in 2008, it was found that women preferred men who had some type of facial hair with light stubble being the clear winner for both short and long-term partners. A more bushy beard was shown to reflect the most masculine, having social maturity, and more aggression. Whether you prefer to wear a full beard or a light stubble, there are products and routines out there that can help. In this article, we’ll dive deeper into which beard oil to use, how best to use it, how to maintain your beard, and what other products can help your beard and skin shine.

Good beard oil should:

  • Help Reduce Beard Dandruff
  • Put some shine on
  • Promote hair growth
  • Soften the beard
  • Eliminate beard itch
  • Add a nice scent to the beard
  • Improve the overall health of the beard

How do we create the best natural beard oil possible?

If you’ve ever wondered, what does beard oil do, let’s first break down what makes a good beard oil.

Firstly there should be carrier oils in there that help to soften and condition the beard plus they also provide nutrients, vitamins, and EFA(essential fatty acids) that are like superfoods for your beard that deliver all the benefits mentioned above. Then we have the essential oils that add that beautiful layer of scent, whether it’s a more woody type of scent such asSandalwood orCedarwood to something a little more earthy or minty like aPatchouli orPeppermint that attracts you. There are also secondary benefits as well such as using certain essential oils in your beard oil for growth, maybe to treat fungus or ‘beard-druff’(dandruff in the beard) or to stimulate the circulation of the skin, they are one of the most crucial elements in any beard oil.

In our beard oil for example, we use a range of different ingredients that tick all the boxes of how a good beard oil should be. Remember that ingredients listed on a product are in order from the first(biggest quantity) to the last(smallest quantity).

Organic Hempseed Oil -Rich in omega-3 and omega-6, the hemp seed oil is a powerhouse ingredient that has been shown to strengthen the beard and skin whilst encouraging healthy beard growth.

Sweet Almond Oil - Has a long history in ancient Chinese medicine and ayurvedic practices for treating skin issues like eczema and psoriasis. It is also high in Oleic acid that is found in the sebum in our skin and produces skin and hair softening effect whilst helping to retain the moisture in our skin.

Macadamia Oil - Is full of amazing benefits that have been shown in thisstudy to have anti-aging properties due to the cell regeneration of squalene. Vitamin E helps retain moisture in the skin and soften the hair and Phytosterols present in abundance in macadamia oil soothe redness, itchiness, and irritated skin.

Castor Seed Oil - Is derived from the seeds of the castor plant and is high in ricinoleic acid which is high in omega-9 unsaturated fatty acids which have been proven to be highlyanti-inflammatory which helps with any skin rashes or itchinessunder the beard and has also been shown to reduceacne and fightfungal infections.

Cedarwood Essential Oil -Has beenshown to have an anxiolytic(reducing anxiety) and calming effect which is very beneficial for many during these times plus it adds to that masculine woody scent that most men(and women) love.

Rosemary Essential Oil - There are numerousstudies pointing to its efficacy in hair growth! With regular use after 6 months, patients experienced significant hair growth compared to baseline. It also contains a compound called 1,8-cineole that instudies has proven to directly improve cognition or brainpower when inhaled and when applied to the skin.

Carrot Seed Essential Oil - Studies have shown that Carrot seed oil has benefits relating to itsanti-aging properties due to its powerfulantioxidant activity and also its powerfulantibacterial compounds combating many types of gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial strains and yeasts.

Lavender Essential Oil - Being such a popular herb, there are manystudies showing the positive effects on cognition, mood, insomnia & neurological disorders such anxiety, depression, Alzheimer's, dementia, etc, not to mention the skin regeneratingqualities and collagen synthesis which helps keeps the elasticity of the skin firm.

Tea Tree Essential Oil - Beard itch or beard-druff can be caused by a range of conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis or seborrheic eczema, ingrown hairs, or tinea barbae (caused by a fungus), which have all been shown instudies when Tea Tree Essential Oil applied topically had a powerful effect in reducing the symptoms of the causes listed above.

What ingredients make the best beard oil growth product?

Companies will try to use shady tactics when promoting their beard oils. They’ll promote the more expensive ingredients on the front of the label yet under the ingredients, you’ll see they use the smallest amount of the expensive stuff and the cheaper ingredients will be at the top of the ingredients section. Remember the biggest amount is at the top of the ingredients and the smallest amount is the last ingredient on the list as is required bylaw.

What is the best beard care routine?

Trimming, Shaving, and Shaping the Beard

It doesn’t matter how much facial hair you have, the principles and outcomes are still the same. Let's start at the beginning. It's best to use a beard trimmer or razor to clean-up or sculpt the hair to form the shape you desire. There is no point tending to hair that is going to be removed shortly after. Use your razor in the direction of the hair growth using light short strokes, rinsing the hair between the blades frequently.

If you struggle with razor burn or ingrown hairs, use a sharp razor and a great lubricant to not only help with the ‘slide’ but also when removing hairs from the epidermis(top layer of skin), you’re effectively leaving pores and hair follicles open to irritation or being clogged by unnatural ingredients such as most shaving creams and foams.

Washing the Beard

Washing is another area where we’ve created all natural beard products. To eliminate this problem we’ve created ourMan Bar which is an all-in-one product for shaving, washing the hair, and washing the body. It contains yellow clay which helps detoxify the skin and provides a great ‘slip’ that allows the razor to glide effortlessly over the skin, whilst every other ingredient in that bar is completely natural and won't clog the pores or irritate the hair follicles.

Once the beard looks the way you like it, then it's best for it always to be shampooed or cleaned using a natural cleansing product. Again our Man Bar contains ingredients like; coconut oil, castor oil, cedarwood, and lavender essential oils just to name a few that help to soften and cleanse the beard, leaving it in prime condition for the application of the beard oil. You could use our Shampoo bar as well which delivers proteins, minerals, and vitamins from the ingredients such as beer, honey, or eggs.

Applying the Beard Oil

The beard oil is then best applied after a shower when the pores, hairs, and hair follicles are opened, allowing maximum penetration and absorption of the beard oil. Add a small amount to the palm of the hands and rub together spreading throughout the hands before applying to the beard. During application, make sure to use the fingertips to apply the beard oil onto the skin under the beard. This will help with the beard itch and problems mentioned above such as beard-druff, ingrown hairs, and encouraging beard growth. “How often should I use beard oil?”, it is best applied daily as part of your routine to strengthen the hairs, condition the beard, and prevent breakages or wiry hair growth.

Added Benefits of our Beard Oil Ingredients

The added benefit of using a beard oil such as ours scented with specific essential oils is not needing to wear cologne or artificial scent throughout the day. You get the secondary benefits of the essential oils such as the reduction of anxiety, feeling of calmness, the improvement of cognition for whenever it's necessary throughout the day, and many more.

Lastly, if you’re putting some effort into your facial hair, then why not put a little into the complexion and maintenance of the facial skin. As you grow older if you apply oil as your daily moisturizers such as our Moringa Oil or Jojoba Oil, you will see a more youthful appearance in your skin and be thankful you looked after the health of your skin as you age.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!”
