Ethics & Sustainability

We say we are ethical, but ethical standards are different for everyone. So we wanted to let you know Toby and Rosie's standards of ethics and how we adhere to them.

First of all, we care!

We care about our environment and the people in it. It’s not enough these days to throw rubbish in the correct coloured bin or occasionally taking your own canvas bag to the supermarket, sure these things are good but compared to the problems and challenges we face, it’s really not much. Toby and Rosie began because we completely stopped using skincare or any health and beauty products that had any chemicals or unnatural ingredients in them.

Animal testing is something we are dead against! We think it’s disgusting to experiment on and cause poor defenceless animals to suffer from dangerous substances that have no place in skincare to begin with. Every single product we offer is handmade by the two of us so we know what goes into it; we know that there are no synthetic substances and nothing unsafe. We even stopped using anything with chemicals on our dog Indi and instead designed a safe and natural dog soap, which he gives two paws up.

Many major skincare companies say they don’t test on animals (We wish we could name names, some are infamous for it but others spend A LOT of money on good press). But in order to export their products to sell in certain other countries, animal testing is required, so they are guilty of cruelty to animals but get away with it. Then there are companies that sell products targeted specifically for babies, but they use so many harmful ingredients that we wouldn't even wash our cars with them (again, we can’t afford the lawsuit if we said their names, but you can probably guess who we mean.)

Something important we would like to address is palm oil, you’ll find it listed as an ingredient in some of our soaps and we can promise you it is certified sustainable palm oil from Columbia. Our supplier is a member of the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) which was established to promote the production and use of sustainable palm oil so people can use it without endangering animals or hurting the planet.

We want to be as transparent as possible, we’re so proud of how we run our business well within our high ethical standards, if you have any questions or concerns please let us know.

We hope to encourage people to have similar ideals and love meeting people who share our passion for the earth, animals, and prosperity. The core values of our business revolve around our philosophies of taking care of each other and taking care of the planet.
We respect the earth and what Mother Nature provides and we want to see our children enjoy the beautiful things that we have enjoyed.

Throughout our business, every decision is made with sustainable goals in mind. From the packaging we use being as minimal and recyclable as possible, we use only 100% post-consumer recycled bags, bio-degradable plastic bags and our body scrubs are packaged in lovely glass mason jars that can be cleaned and reused with tea, spices or honey etc.

We chose plastic jars for our body butters, pink salt facial soap, and four earth clay mask because they are BPA free, recyclable and there is much less energy used in the manufacturing process than glass.

When we print our labels we use 100% post-consumer recycled paper, our business cards are printed on recycled paper and when we ship our products we use recycled packing material that we save from deliveries that we receive.
We try to source all of our raw materials as locally as possible and support Australian small businesses.

Some ingredients we have no choice but to source from overseas but we always try to find out about the region where it comes from and if the production or harvesting of the ingredient is impacting the community or culture. We are extremely careful of these matters and every decision we make carries an unbreakably high level of ethics.

Our product stands are made out of wood which has been recycled from the wooden slats from old beds and the toothbrushes that we sell are made from sustainable bamboo plantations.

It’s overwhelming to think about how we can reverse the damage done to the earth by us humans, but it makes us feel good to know that we are doing what we can to slow it down and create a brighter future for our kids and the generations to come.
